The Parent Trap: Are you a “Default Parent”?
Mar 28, 2023 Episode 34

If you've been hearing a lot of talk about "default parents" recently, it's not just in your head. The controversial buzz word is yet again trending on social media, with more moms opening up about the burnout they're experiencing being the first-in-line person for all things kid-related.

The ‘default parent’ topic is, however, not a new phenomenon. Since women started returning to the workforce after having children, there has been an undeniable pressure on women to do it all. In order to start dismantling the ‘hustle mindset’ that has been instilled in women over the years, it’s going to require a frank, honest, and ongoing conversation with your partner about how ‘default parent syndrome’ might be showing up in your family and the feelings it provokes.

In this episode, Brianna and Mark discuss:

  • Different ways to implement support for the ‘default parent’
  • How to avoid burnout and resentment of your partner
  • The impact of different parenting styles on ‘default parent syndrome’
  • How moving away from multi-generational living has affected this phenomenon
  • Tips that have helped Brianna and Mark balance responsibilities and navigate conversations around dividing roles
